We have been closely following the developments regarding the coronavirus outbreak for several weeks. In order to alleviate the negative effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, necessary measures are being taken by Turkish Government and competent authorities.

With the provisional article added to the proposal of the Law No. 7226 discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, it has been agreed that all periods regarding the material and procedural law will be stopped from 13 March 2020 until 30 April 2020 (these dates are included). The mentioned Law amendment came into force after being published in the Official Gazette published after the signature of President.

The regulation covers the periods specified in the Industrial Property Law No. 6769. In the industrial property legislation, all the periods related to the registration procedures and fees, the opposition/appeal periods, the duration of filing a lawsuit to be filed against Reexamination and Evaluation Board  decisions and all other periods that may cause loss in case of violation have also stopped.

According to the regulation, the deadlines will start operating as of May 1, 2020. As of May 1, all above mentioned cases extended with 15 days and less remaining periods extended to 15 days.
